Neighborhood Trees Summary
There were 322 tress surveyed in the 3 project sites:
50 in Hunts Point in the Bronx,
60 in the Lower East Side of Manhattan,
and 212 in New Brighton on Staten Island.
Of these trees, 34 were in excellent condition, 254 in
good condition, 31 in poor condition, and 3 were dead.
The oldest tree was a Common Horsechestnut
(
Aesculus hippocastanum) located
on Staten Island at 320 years old. The most valuable
tree surveyed was a Tuliptree
(
Liriodendron tulipifera) valued at $23,069.

There were 73 London Plane (
Platanus x acerifolia),
45 Honeylocust (
Gleditsia triacanthos), and
36 Norway Maple (
Acer platanoides) trees surveyed. This

Community Board Land Cover Summary

The land cover of 11 Community Boards (CB) in NYC was analyzed.
20.195% of the land in those 11 CBs was classified as
Tree Cover and 8.187% was classified as Grass Cover.
Values varied greatly amoung the CBs analyzed however.
CB 1 on Staten Island had the highest percentage of Tree
Cover at 35.051% and Grass cover at 13.660%. CB 5 in
Manhattan had the lowest percentage of Tree Cover at
2.846% and Grass Cover at .027%. These CBs also had the
highest and lowest square footage of Tree and Grass
Cover respectively of the 11 CBs that were studied.
